Dobermann. History: The Dobermann is the only German breed that bears the name of its first breeder: F. L. Dobermann (2.1.1834 – 9.6.1894). According to tradition, the Dobermann crossed the so-called "butcher dogs" (partly ancestors of the current Rottweilers), with a type of shepherd dog with a black and tan coat that lived in Thuringia. Thus, it obtained "its breed", a dog often used as a guard dog, a police dog and to protect livestock. When hunting, they were used to fight predators. The Dobermann breeding seeks a medium-sized dog, with a strong build, muscular, which stands out for its elegant silhouette. The Dobermann must possess all the qualities of a companion, protection, utility and family dog. It is not ideal as a first dog as it is often stubborn and may even try to "dominate" the owner. Adaptability to apartment living Apartment living is not the best choice for this very active breed. However, it will adapt if strictly necessary, as long as it is taken for a walk several times a day. Tendency to bark Occasional Relationship with children Affectionate, but not very patient with children. Relationship with cats The Dobermann doesn't have a strong predatory instinct but can easily chase small pets, such as cats and rabbits. Relationship with dogs The Dobermann does not like socializing with other dogs: in fact, it tends to compete with them. Openness to strangers The Doberman has a natural protective instinct towards its loved ones, which can lead him to be very wary of strangers. Watch ability It is a careful and effective guard. Exercise needs This breed is famous for its endless energy so it is not suitable for those who love a sedentary life or have little time to dedicate to it. Trainability The Dobermann is inclined to listen to commands and obey its owner. Grooming Low maintenance Intelligence Highly intelligent and capable of learning, the Dobermann is generally easy to train. However, one must be wary of its stubbornness. Playfulness The Dobermann is a playful and fun-loving dog. Health Hypoallergenic: NO. The Dobermann is prone to dysplasia (hips and elbows), eye disease and dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Like most very active dogs, the Dobermann also tends to gain weight if forced to lead a too sedentary life.
